This is a story of the inner clan political intrigue that led to the duel between Musashi Miyamoto and Kojiro Sasaki on Funa-shima island. Differing from all the other movies I have seen on this famous duel, This movie focuses on Kojiro and his life as a retainer in the Hosokawa clan. There is a faction in the clan, led by the heir to the lord, that see firearms as the future of battle. They want to buy guns from foreign merchants even though it has been banned by the Shogun and could get the clan abolished. This faction sees Kojiro';s loyalty to his lord as a threat to their goal.They decide to try to get Kojiro to fight a duel with Musashi, hoping that it will remove himwithout raisingany suspicion.
