Foreigner合唱团成立于1976年的美国
纽约，与Journey, Styx为同期乐队，是支起源于70年代
重摇滚并受到流行市场喜宠爱的乐队，尤其是他们的抒情摇滚曲，更成为了排行榜的常胜军、风靡世界各地，连Linkin Park（联合公园）的主唱Chester，小时候都是听Foreigner的歌曲而立志当一名歌手。Foreigner起源于英国籍的
吉他手Mick Jones，他原来是迷幻乐队Spooky Tooth的成员，1975年他来到纽约加入了几个不同的团体，最后结识了主唱Lou Gramm，于是以这位英国来的外国人身份为团名灵感，组成了Foreigner（外国人）合唱团。
演艺经历
1977年乐队甫一发行同名处女作便告成功，乐队成员在此之前虽然都不是太顺利，但是在乐队成立后却一帆风顺。吉他手Jones和主唱Lou Gramm的表现深得听众欢心，他们的创作方式也正中普通听众下怀，他们的音乐在硬摇滚的主线下强调动听的旋律和令人印象深刻的吉他riff，并经常进行换汤不换药的形式变换以保持音乐的新鲜感，从而在商业上取得了极大的成功，单曲专辑两头开花。之后他们频频参加一些大型主流摇滚乐队的演出，并迅速扩大了知名度。在接连推出两张成功的唱片之后，1982年，经过人事变动的乐队推出他们的镇宅之作《4》，这是商业成功作品的参照标准，精良细致，值得从业人员研究。之后乐队开始以较为沉稳的心态进行发展，在商业上保持了成功，甚至在主唱Lou Gramm离队后也是如此。
I Want to Know What Love Is：曾是“Foreigner”最成功的单曲之一，在英美两地都夺得了当年的冠军，并且在2004年，这首歌被滚石杂志评为了史上最伟大的500首歌的476位。
